TYPES OF HEART VALVES

Image
Heart Valves are responsible for the blood flows in only one direction through the heart. There are Four valves within heart including: • Tricuspid Valve • Pulmonary Valve • Mitral Valve • Aortic Valve The Mitral valve and Aortic valve are located in the left heart while the Tricuspid valve and Pulmonary valve are located in the right heart. The valves prevent the backward flow of blood. These valves act as one-way inlets of blood on one side of a ventricle and one-way outlets of blood on the other side of a ventricle. As the heart muscle contracts and relaxes, the valves open and shut, allowing blood flow into the ventricles and atria at alternate times. WHAT IS DILATED CARDIOMYOPATHY

Image
Dilated Cardiomyopathy is a disease of the heart muscle usually starts in heart's main pumping chamber. In Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) condition, heart's ability to pump blood decreases and it can be a life threatening. Dilated Cardiomyopathy can also cause irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias), blood clots or sudden death. Dilated Cardiomyopathy can affect people of  all ages including infants and children but it is more common in men ages from 20 to 50. Signs and symptoms of Dilated Cardiomyopathy include: • Fatigue • Shortness of breath • Reduced ability to exercise • Swelling in legs, ankles and feet • Swelling of abdomen due to fluid buildup • Chest pain • Unusual sounds when heart beats (heart murmurs) Numerous factors can cause the left ventricle to dilate and weaken including: • Diabetes • Obesity • High blood pressure • Alcohol • Certain cancer medications • Drugs consumption To know more about Dilated Cardiomyopathy, its advanced treatments, di...

WHAT ARE HEART VALVES?

Image
Human hearts work in a very rhythmic and systematic way. Each time heart beats; it first fills with blood and then pumps that blood out. The Heart Valves keep blood moving through the heart in the right direction. The human heart has 4 valves: • The mitral valve and tricuspid valve control blood flow from the atria to the ventricles. • The aortic valve and pulmonary valve control blood flow out of the ventricles. A healthy heart valve minimizes any hurdle and allows blood to flow smoothly and freely in one direction. Heart valves close completely and quickly not allowing any blood to flow back through the valve.
