WHAT IS HEART VALVE DISEASE?

Human Heart has total four valves including Mitral valve, Tricuspid valve, Aortic valve and Pulmonic valve. Main function of heart valves is to maintain blood circulation in the right direction through heart.
In heart valve disease, one or more heart valve does not work properly thus causing disruption in the blood flow. Several risk factors such as congenital heart disease, older age, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, infections and certain heart diseases can increase the risk of heart valve disease.
Common Types of Heart Valve Diseases are:
• Valvular Stenosis
This condition occurs when heart valve does not open fully. All four valves can develop stenosis. In Valvular Stenosis disease, heart works very hard to pump blood through it which can lead to the condition of heart failure.
• Valvular Insufficiency
This condition is also called as Regurgitation. Valvular Insufficiency occurs when the valve does not close fully. Due to the Valvular Insufficiency disease, body gets less blood thus causing various complications.
