Precautions after Heart Bypass Surgery - Know Do’s & Don’ts after Bypass Surgery

Image
We all have heard the word “Heart Bypass Surgery” many times. It is also known as Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) Surgery. The main goal of Heart Bypass surgery is to improve blood flow to heart. In this surgery, a heart surgeon uses blood vessels which are taken from another area of body to bypass the damaged arteries. The Heart Bypass Surgery is done when coronary arteries become blocked or damaged. Coronary arteries supply oxygenated blood to heart. If these arteries are blocked then it affects the flow of blood, so heart does not get required amount of blood. The heart doesn’t work properly because of the insufficient blood supply. This condition can lead to heart attack and ultimately heart failure. Prevention is always better than cure. Bypass surgery is a major operation in a patient’s life. It takes around 4-6 weeks for complete recovery. After the bypass surgery, every patient should take some precautions to get faster and smoother recovery. Preventive meas...

TYPES OF HEART VALVES

Image
Heart Valves are responsible for the blood flows in only one direction through the heart. There are Four valves within heart including: • Tricuspid Valve • Pulmonary Valve • Mitral Valve • Aortic Valve The Mitral valve and Aortic valve are located in the left heart while the Tricuspid valve and Pulmonary valve are located in the right heart. The valves prevent the backward flow of blood. These valves act as one-way inlets of blood on one side of a ventricle and one-way outlets of blood on the other side of a ventricle. As the heart muscle contracts and relaxes, the valves open and shut, allowing blood flow into the ventricles and atria at alternate times. WHAT ARE HEART VALVES?

Image
Human hearts work in a very rhythmic and systematic way. Each time heart beats; it first fills with blood and then pumps that blood out. The Heart Valves keep blood moving through the heart in the right direction. The human heart has 4 valves: • The mitral valve and tricuspid valve control blood flow from the atria to the ventricles. • The aortic valve and pulmonary valve control blood flow out of the ventricles. A healthy heart valve minimizes any hurdle and allows blood to flow smoothly and freely in one direction. Heart valves close completely and quickly not allowing any blood to flow back through the valve.
