HYPERLIPIDEMIA AND HEART DISEASE

Hyperlipidemia is also called as high cholesterol. It is a major risk factor for Cardiovascular Disease & Atherosclerosis.

When high cholesterol is present in the blood, it builds up in the walls of arteries, so that arteries become narrowed and blood flow to the heart muscle gets reduced or blocked.

If heart does not get enough blood and oxygen then person can suffer from chest pain.

Heart attack occurs when the blood supply to heart muscles is completely cut off due to blockage.

Hyperlipidemia is easily treatable. Eating low cholesterol food, regular exercise and certain medicines can lower the high cholesterol level in the blood.

Lowering high cholesterol level significantly reduces the risk of developing heart diseases

Blood test (lipoprotein) shows the levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol, HDL (good) cholesterol, Triglycerides in the blood. Hence it is advisable that adult and older people should undergo lipoprotein blood test at least once in a year.
